South of the “Rías Baixas”, Spanish region, sited on the Atlantic coast, it includes South coast of “A Coruña” province and the whole coast of Pontevedra, in the Galician Country. They are wider than the “Rías Altas” (placed on the Galician Atlantic North coast), and they are estuaries with an undoubted landscape beauty and agricultural richness. The most important are the Muros and Noia, Arousa, Pontevedra, and Vigo ones.
As there are zones of smooth relief, human occupation is very intense, making it one of the most dense populated in Galicia: Muros, Noia, Vilagarcía de Arousa, Vilanova de Arousa, Redondela, Pontevedra, Marín, Cangas, Baiona and Vigo, are their most important urban centres, and some of them have outstanding commercial and fishing ports.
In front of the coast there are many islands, such as Arousa, A Toxa, Ons and Cíes, while the end of the river Miño, in the town of A Guarda, is usually considered the last of the “Rías Baixas”.
